I thought of today how generally it seems a lot of people think as you get older you have to focus more on revolving your life around work, kids, etc. and become a boring person. More ranting inside... )

I saw an article tonight written by a person whose parents got into a polyamory arrangement in the 70's. Before I go any further first let me say that while I totally disagree with that situation I don't really judge them as people because they are just human and made mistakes. However I have a few things to say.

I went to TUAW and I noticed this article. They said a recent study has said that most Mac users are snobs. My comment is that the things they list there I might have done even before I became a Mac user. Perhaps I was always one and didn't know it? =P Actually a list of things like this might apply to just about anyone out there and it doesn't matter what kind of computer they use.

  • Buy teeth-whitening products
  • Buy Organic Food
  • Pay for Music Online
  • Be Perfectionists
  • Go to Starbucks

Especially the last one (I added it to their list after seeing the video), whenever I make something I never settle.. I try to make it the best I can make it. The one before that... I hadn't done so much of until lately that I found online music at a reasonable (in my opinion) price. I never got into buying tracks off of iTunes. I actually don't buy teeth-whitening products because most of them are a waste of money in my opinion. I also buy the kind of food that I can afford whether or not it's organic or not. As for Starbucks I've gone there a few times because I like their iced coffees but lots of people have and I would bet most of those people are PC users.

One guy said PC users tend to take whatever is given to them, "Beer is beer, clothes are clothes, etc." so they always get the generic stuff. As with all generalizations it's not necessarily true. I sometimes buy some generic brands at the store to help save some money.

They say the word "snob" is a funny word because it's both insulting and flattering at the same time.

In my case however I don't think Apple or the Mac is perfect and I also use PCs from time to time. So I don't think I fit the strict definition of a Mac snob. I always pictured that to be someone who only uses Macs and hates PCs and doesn't even want to touch them. I don't walk around everywhere I go proclaiming that I'm a Mac user and I don't hang out at the Apple store long enough for someone to ask. In fact since it has been open I have only been there twice to check out the new products.

To be honest though I kind of think whenever someone accuses another of being a "Snob" for anything whether it be a computer or intellectual it may be either because the person was a jerk to them or they are jealous at least to a degree.
