I thought of today how generally it seems a lot of people think as you get older you have to focus more on revolving your life around work, kids, etc. and become a boring person. Men are supposed to have tacky tastes and are only supposed to like uber macho stuff and look like they are cut from sears catalogs or look like some biker dude or some other bad dude. Their type of humor is supposed to just be things like jokes about drinking, sex or politics.
They are supposed to watch football every sunday so their wives can complain that they are football widows. All men are supposed to like and dislike the same things. Home Improvement (the activity not the show), tools, cars (excuse me... TRUCKS), the colors black and blue for EVERYTHING, scratching their crotch and burping. They are supposed to prefer being burly ugly bears and anything they do to improves themselves is considered metro and thus gay. If a man paints a flower they must crush a dozen beer can's on their forehead and pump iron all afternoon until they feel like a man again.
Unless you are Little Richard.
They are supposed to be allergic to all things even remotely feminine yet they are supposed to like females. But of course, only for sex. They aren't supposed to like listening or talking to their girlfriends\wives either. Men are also supposed to keep their vehicles interiors dirty but their engines clean like there's deposits of dirt everywhere and they are supposed to like to have their place messy. One is also supposed to like things just like the rest of their family likes including country western and things like that.
Men aren't supposed to like cooking. If you make anything that isn't elaborate then that's not cooking. That's just "warming" and must be looked down upon and by extension you are looked down upon.
As you get older you are supposed to narrow your interests and like less and less things. You are supposed to close your mind more and more as time goes by. When one gets older they are supposed to like to wear ugly shorts and a polo shirt with a shirt pocket and a fisherman's hat. All in earth tones of course. Or tacky hawaiian shirts so they can seem fun but they look like tourists no matter where they go.
You may say I have watched too much TV but that's practically how I feel. I mean it almost seems that way to me. Also as you grow up you are supposed to like to sparingly decorate your home and fill your walls with photos of you and your relatives. When you decorate you are supposed to like things from your region that you might see in a dentist's waiting room. If you live in the south west you are supposed to decorate in a southwestern style.
Don't get me wrong though. I understand that for example when a woman gets older it's not kosher for her to continue to dress and act like she's a teenager. Unless you are Madonna but even she gets made fun of. However I don't want to lose myself as I get older. I was seeing on a TV program people complaining that they lose themselves in marriage so marriage is not a good thing. I'd like to think you don't have to lose yourself.
