A little back story before I begin. This past month or two I have upgraded my house's network router to one that has Wi-Fi 802.11n. So far we have one computer that is hooked up via Wi-Fi. I put a PCI card into it. We also have two sets of cordless phones in the house. Just the other week however my dad was yelling at me because he noticed whenever he uses the white uniden cordless phones upstairs the Wi-Fi on said desktop PC would disconnect.

This past month I have upgraded my router to one with Wi-Fi (802.11n, a Cisco\Linksys with DD-WRT installed). The geekery is inside..... )

That's it for now I'll write some non-computer related stuff later.

This week I have been looking into an alternative to the internet service provider I have been using (WildBlue). As you may have noticed a few weeks ago I listed a bunch of alternatives but none of them in my opinion are as reasonable as the one I'm currently using. However, I recently found one that is the most reasonable wireless ISP that I have heard of so far. It's called, "La Cañada Wireless Association".

I was looking at what broadband ISPs are available in my families area and I heard about this ISP: "Grappa Wireless" It's interesting to me because it's a local New Mexico wireless ISP and one of the areas it specifically says it covers is the major road my family lives next to... "Highway 14 to Lone Butte". I think it might be what my sister was using when she was with her friends and she said they where getting wireless internet.

The only problem I can foresee is their bandwidth cap. Their least expensive plan ($63) has a 10GB cap. Their most expensive plan ($538) has a 100GB Cap. For comparison they say Comcast has a ~200GB cap a month. With stuff like Game demos getting bigger and bigger as well as being able to buy games online like with Steam, not to mention other things I can see me and my sister hitting the 10GB cap before too long... and what happens when you hit it? You get booted for a while?

Some people say the only way you can hit those limits is by downloading "illegal files" but nowadays that's not so true anymore especially with ballooning demo sizes and stores like Steam and the iTunes music store (which also sells videos).. Netflix online movies, etc.
