I've been out of the loop for many weeks so coming back here are the things I have noticed that are interesting to me and other things I did after not having the internet for a month. In no particular order:

I just read a teenager supposedly made a nuclear reactor in his home... I am imagining this guy blowing up his neighborhood.

Today I also read that they sold an old Commodore PET computer from the 70's complete with tape drive on ebay for around $960. An 80's Sony Ghetto Blaster sold for $407.

There was a time when a 10MB hard drive costed over $3,000.

I am watching The Outer Limits on TV. They are showing an episode about a computer whiz who must destroy a deadly computer intelligence. Computer whiz sounds like he is whizzing on his computer I had a coffee cup with a cartoon of that.. it said computer whiz and it showed a cartoon whizzing on his computer.

I found this one web site earlier on my laptop that had interesting japanese mini figures that you print out on your printer. Very cute. I wish I had some card stock to make them nice.

This is supposed to be some kind of tricorder like device... not exactly hand held but it's a start. One thing that they can do to improve it imake the control detachable from the big part of the device and have it transmit the data over a wireless network connection. This would be handy for when they want to analyze materials in hazardous situations because they can put the device on a wheeled robot and wheel it in by remote control.

EA has releasad the Command & Conquer 3 demo yesterday but as I told a couple of friends it's 1.1GB! Not too long ago I used to consider 100MB demos to be large. I was thinking it wouldn't be so good if it was that big and then only contained 3 levels. I also was thinking.. are they including HD videos in this demo or what? A friend said it may be a trial version which can be unlocked but I almost think it could just be a large traditional demo.

Have you ever had a message in your phone answering service\machine that said, "If you aren't.. *insert name here* you may not listen to this message further!"

I have to! With my answering service you can't delete a message until you listen to the whole thing! If they don't want people like me to hear the whole message they should make sure they are calling the correct number.

I was seeing this one article on Digg that talks about how the maximize button in Windows compares to the zoom button in Mac OS. The maximize button on Windows always makes a window enlarge until it fills the whole screen. On the Mac, for the most part hitting the zoom button makes a window resize to fit it's contents. So for example when you are maximizing a browser on Windows it just fills the whole screen.. on the Mac when you hit the zoom button it makes the window pretty much page sized (the size where two of them can fit on a widescreen display).

I found that when I started getting bigger monitors with higher resolution especially 1280x1024 the maximize button in windows made less and less sense especially for applications such as instant messengers. So I hardly ever used the maximize button. Although I hardly use the zoom button in OS X either because usually I have the window sized just the way I like it and it remembers that the next time I open that window. I have also noticed on OS X it's up to the progammer what the zoom button does so some programs "maximize" the windows way and others zoom to fit the contents such as I just noticed Adium does that although it's one of those programs I mentioned that doesn't make sense to maximize to full screen on my size of desktop and of course iTunes switches between a mini window and a regular window when you hit the zoom button.

So uh.. the point. Yeah, maximizing to full screen doesn't make too much sense when you have a large screen.

These ipod cases are funny to me:

I read about them on Gizmodo which in turn links to here.

Here's a southpark character based on yours truly made with the southpark character generator here.
