I think my old look was getting pretty long in the tooth so I changed it tonight... my new one is more Alice inspired and I replaced all my user icons as well. I couldn't find an American McGee's Alice title font so I used the one from Tim Burton's Alice In Wonderland instead. I don't like that version as much but I think my new header came out pretty good regardless.

I read on TUAW today that another new graphics editing application for the Mac has been released. It's called "Pixelmator". I downloaded and gave it a try myself and it looks good.. they have a very nice looking web site and everything.

But I'm missing some features that I use all the time on The GIMP. Like the paths (bezier select) tool. It's sort of like the polygon lasso except you can change the curvyness of the selection. I also couldn't seem to figure out how masks work in pixelmator.. at least I couldn't figure out how to create one that masks the alpha channel like I do on The GIMP. I am also missing some tools like airbrush which I also use a lot in The GIMP.

Its image browser is nice though it can browse your iPhoto library or your pictures folder... that's pretty neat. But the other stuff ruins it for me I'm sorry to say. The same thing happens with a lot of other graphics editing programs. I guess what I would like is a more native GIMP that uses a native UI but has all the features of The GIMP. I would like a graphics program that is to The GIMP the way Adium is to Pidgin. Seashore is sort of like that but it too is missing a lot of the features I use.

No, photoshop doesn't have the selection tool that I like either. =P I'm just going to have to stick to The GIMP for now and wait to see if any alternatives get the features I want.

I just read on their site that 2.4 is at release candidate 3 stage. I hope to see a Mac compile of that soon. We are stuck on 2.2.

That's a pretty good read... it talks about the changes in vista (with a peppering of how it is in OS X for comparison). My comments inside.. pretty techy stuff.... )
