There are many notable quotes from Steve Jobs over the years. There is one in particular that I want to touch upon:

We don’t know how to make a $500 computer that’s not a piece of junk and our DNA will not let us ship that.

The easiest way to interpret that is to take it at face value and think that if Apple made a $500 computer it'd be a piece of junk. Or think that it has something to do with the original entry level Mac Mini which debuted at $499.. it was really said in the context of laptops and netbooks and that is what he was referring to.

None of Apple's computers are under $500 at the moment especially if you add any build to order options. So none of Apple's current computers are pieces of junk even if you go by the former assumption. The lowest price Mac Mini right now is $600 by itself.

I'd like to think however that Steve was being clever and making double talk marketing speak and that he's really saying they are working on that "problem" and we will be seeing non-junky $500 Mac in the future. Steve is known for sometimes denying things that they are working on then releasing them later.
