Good article by J.K. Rowling
Apr. 9th, 2006 01:12 pmI just stumbled upon this today and I agree with her. I'm also glad to see that is her opinion on the subject.
Some people just don't understand though and to those she's not saying that people should be obese as that is also unhealthy but being anorexic is unhealthy too. Anyone who criticizes her for this article is a part of the problem, not the solution. I mean there are a lot of people who wouldn't pass for being overweight who are being given grief by their parents or whoever to be extra skinny because that's what's deemed as attractive. I really think that's wrong.
Also someone else named Scotsman wrote an article disparaging her because he thinks she's just a spoiled rich brat who thinks people should focus on her latest quadrillion dollars and any castle she might have bought and said she should get out more.
The thing I don't like about Scotsman's response to her is it takes a trivial little part of her rant and makes it the focus and it also makes assumptions about her in the process which aren't nessasarily true. But I guess that's the way of the internet when people can't or don't want to understand the meat of your subject they tend to do that. Nit picking I guess you could say. It also pretty much seems that success breeds envy and that's part of his problem right there. I for one agree with her real point and that is our society is too focused on being thin.
Although I do agree that her saying she'd like her girls to be more like Hermione can be a little confusing to some people because of her appearance in the movies but what she really meant was the Hermione in her head that is the smart independent girl with good character who focuses a lot more on other things than being super skinny.
