I enjoy looking at pictures of other people's places especially if they have interesting things. I sometimes would look at certain sites of people I knew because they feature photo galleries of their living areas.. particularly where they keep their computers. I've also noticed that there are some communities here in LJ that feature photos of peoples rooms. Well I am not sure I want to put mine there right now but in my own journal it's fair game. So here is a tour of my current room now that I've been settled in for almost a year (warning, quite a few photos inside):

Prior to me moving back in my sister painted the room yellow... you can see this better in some photos than others. She was painting it a dark blue before but a friend told her that she needed to paint it a brigher more cheerful color because of how there are no windows in this room (I have to have the lights on and keep the door open during the day). I actually kind of like how it looks in yellow so I haven't changed it. She didn't want for me to get my room back but what does she need it for if she's moving to California? She hardly even used the space when she lived in here she mostly just used half.

There are a few things I'd like to change about it like getting new furniture and better cable management but on the whole I like my room. I like it better now than when I last moved out.
Sometimes I think others may not approve. I mean.. I'm basically a part of geek subculture and have quite a bit of collectibles (action figures mainly) but I'm mostly pleasing myself with my room and no one visits... really... so most of the time only I see this stuff... I dread the day when I'm told that I have to give it all up. My apartment had this same stuff only split into two levels since I had a bedroom that was in a loft. Most of my furniture is currently hand me downs that I have picked and chosen from what was available. Anyway without further ado here it is:

My Bed Area, originally uploaded by smoketetsu.

This is where I sleep. It's a futon that was given to my family by a friend from their work which they let me have. I plan on replacing the frame soon though with a tatami platform bed. The patchwork quilt is by my Grandmother. Above the bed there's a dream catcher which was a gift to me by someone who worked with my mom.

TV Area, originally uploaded by smoketetsu.

My TV area... the TV was my family's living room TV until the sound on it broke so they let me have it to go with my surround sound stereo a long time ago. The image above it is the space station scene from 2001: A Space Oddysey run through the rasturbator to make it into a huge multi-part poster. On top of my center channel speaker is my H.R. Giger Li II statue. On the left speaker is a scene from The Matrix Reloaded as a figure scene. On the right speaker is a Darth Maul on his speeder bank and a glade light effects air freshener. You can also see the my two bean bag chairs.

Here is the H.R. Giger Li II statue up close. It's at the angle it's at because I used my TV tray to prop the cell phone on to steady it while taking the shot.

Top of the book shelf, originally uploaded by smoketetsu.

This is one of two book shelves in my room. At the very top is where I keep my DSL modem and router... next to them is a "Teddy Scare" from Hot Topic. I also keep my DVDs, some of my books and in the M&M's box I keep my large collection of comic books. I need to clean up that area though. It also has my framed electronics assembly certificates.. my CD wallets and random papers. As you can see in the next photo:

night stand and candles, originally uploaded by smoketetsu.

This is my night stand which I pretty much just use for underwear and socks. It also has my alarm clock and my small collection of candles. The biggest one was given to me by my Aunt who is closest to my Dad. The rest where given to me by Adia. I'd like to replace that night stand though with one that is more modern and minimalist looking. The black cube is one of those Star Wars toys from Taco Bell that they where giving out when the special editions of the original trilogy where at the theater. In one side you can see Darth Vader's head and in the other side you can see Yoda's head.

This is my Serial Experiments Lain wallscroll. I bought it a few months back from Anime castle as that is one of my favorite anime series. Although that series is very short compared to others. There where other wallscrolls from that series but I wanted one that showed her with some kind of computer equipment.

This is my Sailor Moon wall scroll. I actually didn't buy this one. It was my sisters but she didn't want it anymore so she let me have it. I'm actually not that much of a Sailor Moon fan at least not like I once was but this is one of the better Sailor Moon wallscrolls I have seen so I don't plan on getting rid of it anytime soon. I also thinks it looks really good on the color of wall I have. The cubby hold thingy below it is one that my family had for a long time and I'm using for now to hold all the spare wires and accessories that I have accumulated. The two plushies on top are souveneirs from the Monkees concert my family and I attended a few years back. They are both wearing Monkees t-shirts.

This is where I keep my video equipment my Pioneer receiver is being covered by a TV tray which I spray painted black a few years back because I was sick of the color it came in which made it look uglier than it should have been. It was one of those wood finish colors that made it look pretty blah. At the top of my A/V equipment rack is the case where I'm keeping lots of CDs and DVDs that I have burned and a retro Cracker Jack tin that is also a money bank. Here's a closeup of it:

A closeup of my other shelf where I keep most of my figure collection and part of my book collection. This part shows my small collection from the Alien films. My favorite being the large 1979 Alien figure.

Book Shelf Number Two, originally uploaded by smoketetsu.

The upper half of that book shelf. This is where most of my collection is currently housed. In case you are curious as to the contents.. From top to bottom and left to right I have:
  • The Matrix Neo and Agent Smith bullet time scene.

  • A can of black spay paint

  • Flat Pack Figures I made myself.

  • One of those wooden dummies artists use to study poses.

  • A Gizmo Furby given to me by Adia.

  • Tuxedo Mask in a lavender Tuxedo.. given to me by my sister.

  • Gandalf The White

  • Batman Returns Die Cast Penguin Duckmobile and Armed Penguin

  • Terminator 2 die cast figurines.

  • Chun Li in a bikini laying on the beach

  • An intel bunny person beanie baby stuck on the corner with a tiny bit of velcro

Second Row:
  • Sil from Species

  • Wind up Chibi Blade (Wesley Snipes Blade)

  • Freddy Krueger

  • Puppet Master Puppets: Jester, Tunneler, Blade, Leech Woman and Pinhead

Third Row:
  • Edward Scissorhands given to me by my sister.

  • Agent Fox Mulder (I need a Scully to go with him)

  • Jack The Ripper

  • Hellraiser: Pinhead and Female Cenobite

  • Marylin Manson Omega from Mechanical Animals and mini figure of one of the characters that tried to capture him in the dope show video

  • Lord of The Rings Ringwraith

Fourth Row:

  • Circe The Little Apple Doll from Hot Topic

  • Planet of the Apes Dr. Cornelius doll

This as some of you have seen before is my computer area. The wall scroll here is from Ghost In The Shell Stand Alone Complex featuring Major Motoko Kusanagi. That is my favorite anime series. The smaller wall scroll next to it is a former calender which Adia sent me after removing the calender part since it was no longer valid. On top of my desk besides my computer equipment is my cordless phone and a repurposed bertolli spaghetti jar holding roasted wasabi peas... and a pencil holder that looks like the default trash can in OS X.

Key Rack, originally uploaded by smoketetsu.

My sister installed this key rack and I'm glad she did because it has been very useful to me. The Fairly Odd Parents keychains where rescued from the crawl space connected to my room.. she had just thrown them in there because a piece or two broke off them. The intel bunny person keychain was given to me by a friend working at software etc. (now gamestop) a long time ago. Also hanging there are my headphones, my MP3 player and my Ducti brand duct tape wallet.... and of course my keys. I have a chain on my wallet because I locked myself out of my apartment a couple of times. =P You can see some of the dark blue peeking around the edges of the rack where it meets the wall.... and some of the white from before then... I should take a small paint brush and fix that some time.
