I was seeing an article about Quake Live.. an upcoming updated version of Quake 3 Arena which is essentially that game with a "fresh coat of paint" and also runs in your browser. It's supposed to be free.. ad supported. There's a big question mark as to whether it will support mods like maps and junk. I hope they at least support custom player models.

You can sign up to beta test Quake Live here. I signed up although it probably wont be too different from Quake 3 Arena. Although they seem to say they want a wider variety of people to play more than just the people who play the original game and it will have better matchmaking capabilities.

With the old game it used to kind of suck finding a good server to play on. The few times that I have played in the past few years I happened to get onto servers whose players are the type that probably live and breath Quake 3 Arena so they totally spank me. I'm pretty good at Quake 3 Arena but I don't have insane aiming skills like certain people have.

Well, there is one good thing about it.. you don't have to dig up your old Quake III Arena CD key. Speaking of that I wonder if you could register that CD key with steam and download Quake III Arena through there... id has put their games on there although maybe not individually. That wouldn't do me much good on my Mac though. Quake Live is multi-platform as far as I know.
