Each time PC Gamer makes a podcast. At the end of each one they talk about what they each are currently playing it gave me an idea to make an entry sort of like that.
I've been playing a few games lately.. but mostly older games... (I mention system I play it on after each game's name).
I've beaten Max Payne(Mac) again and I got another game of both Max Payne and Max Payne 2(PC) going now in hard boiled difficulty. Makes me really look forward to Alan Wake(PC).. Remedy makes a really good third person game. I'm most definetly going to want to play it on Windows Vista as I strongly prefer mouse and keyboard for the Max Payne type of third person shooter... but even then people will have a choice of controller don't get me wrong. I just choose keyboard and mouse for me. The other third person shooter I look forward to most is Stranglehold(PC).
On the first person shooter front I've finally sat down and beat Star Trek Voyager Elite Force(PC). The NPCs in that game are pretty buggy but it is a fun game in general in my opinion. Speaking of buggy the Mac version failed to trigger a script in a crucial area so I wasn't able to complete it there.. I had to beat it on my PC Laptop instead.
I just can't seem to put down Prey(Mac).. whenever I start a game of that I always end up blowing through a couple of hours before I know it. I loved it and wish it would continue when you reach the end I can't wait for Prey 2(either PC or Mac). I just noticed that there are certain mouth thingies that you can kill and stop from spitting acid amongst other things at you. Usually I had been taking damage going through those areas when I didn't have to. =P I also noticed that the bad guys can pick up health powerups. That mostly just robs you of that health though.
I've been playing through Doom 3(Mac) again but wish I could have the expansion pack and also play the new not yet released version of open-coop or last man standing with a friend. I've reinstalled Quake 4 to play that some more.. I'm such a junkie for that type of FPS. =P Every so often i also play the older Doom(Mac) games still... using Doomsday including the Doom 64 TC(PC). Which I prefer to play over playing it in emulation because you get keyboard and mouse and the game also has expansions and junk.
Then I go retro sometimes (through emulation either on Mac or PC) and I play some old NES, SNES, N64 and PSX games.. the main NES game that I find myself getting into recently is the old Sunsoft Batman game that came out around the same time as the first movie.
On N64 my favorite game is Mario Kart 64..... I like Mario 64 but I seem to get stuck in it at certain places. Same with Zelda 64.
On PSX my main game to play right now is Silent Hill (Screenshot 1) (Screenshot 2). I've also got Silent Hill 2 for PC (screenshot) but the GPU in my laptop isn't compatible with it. That laptop's GPU doesn't have hardware T&L so it breaks the flashlight (and maybe other things) in Silent HIll 2 so it makes the apartment building pitch black when you have it on. Speaking of old survival horror games I have been feeling like playing the old Resident Evil games.
I loaded up the old PC version on my laptop but there is a couple of problems with it. Gamepad support is good I was able to remap the buttons the way I like it taking advantage of all the buttons current PC gamepads have. However since the game was meant for a P133 with 3D Card the cut scenes run way too fast on anything recent. You have to run it in Win9x compatiblity mode and it freezes up in the cut scene after the first time you encounter a zombie and you have to hit alt-F4 and quit it. So I'm getting me the PSX version to play in emulation. The only thing I will be missing is the ability to skip the loading scenes in between rooms.
In case you are wondering no I don't play all those games all in the same day. I rotate them depending on my mood on different days. A thing that I like is how most emulators have savestates so it's like having quicksave\quickload on those old games.
