At Neowin in the thread for the "Yet another desktop manager" app for windows a person commented:
"I was simply stating that every windows fanboy on this site bashes linux yet they ironically install an app to imitate linux? Found it annoying."
Here's my comment:
"To tell you the truth virtual desktops weren't invented on Linux either. Since it was based on Unix it simply inherited them from it. It also started with having separate virtual terminal sessions so the idea has been around for a long time before the developers who work software that runs on Linux even thought of it. Even Amiga OS had something similar (seperate desktops\screens) before Linux did and so did Mac OS believe it or not (the kind where you scroll around in a larger desktop). I'm also sure not everyone who runs this is doing it to ape Linux. Not that I'm taking up for people who bash Linux but this isn't exactly a Linux innovation. Besides.. that software isn't really even Linux per say it's just what you run on top of it.
You know what... this isn't even new on windows there have been hundreds of different virtual desktop managers and even shells that specifically ape Linux desktop environments\window managers. Some of these utilities are made as hobbies, others where even made by video card manufacturers. Yet.. just now you are finding it annoying? This sort of stuff happens to\on all systems. Better to not get so huffy over it... just relax."
Of course I don't expect for the person to listen to me and I'm not going to participate any further but I wanted to say something anyway.
