I'm writing about this while it's still fresh in my mind. I caught not too long ago an article that says that Ghostbusters has just been re-released using a flash drive as its media. But there's a catch. It has DRM, so you may copy the file to your hard drive but it'll require the USB Stick to be plugged in for it to play. This effectively negates any advantages of copying said movie to the hard drive.

I also can't help but wonder if it's a good idea to put a movie onto an easily erased or overwritten media format. Unless the drive is dedicated to that file and is write only.
Back when VHS was king and I was a child I erased quite a few of my parents movies and TV shows much to their chagrin. I've gotten used to the idea of having media that is only written to once as a more permanent place to keep or backup media files and having writeable media as only temporary storage while that media is desired to keep at your fingertips.

However I don't think they would want people to be backing up that type of media file to other more permanent media formats to tell you the truth. I think they'd rather have you buy another copy in that format.

Anyway, I can see however why flash drives are getting so popular. They are small they are getting cheap and they hold quite a bit. The other day my family got me a small black 1GB iLogic flash stick for $10 for my homework and it works pretty well. It seems nicer than things such as floppy or zip disks. I'm just curious as to whether this movie thing is such a good idea.

One other thing. This probably also would have been cooler if the flash drive was Ghostbusters logo shaped or something like a proton pack or Ecto-1. I really liked the Mars tin I got with my special edition of Total Recall on DVD so something similar for ghostbusters would be cool in my opinion. If you have a TV with a USB port that can read media files off of flash drives it'd be cool to if you want to watch ghostbusters to plug in the proton pack into your TV. I can imagine other ideas for other movies such as with Freddy Krueger they could put the movie into a freddy glove shaped flash drive. Or they could make the drive be the right dimensions to put a mini movie poster sticker on it. But I guess they are trying to be as cheap as possible with this in particular.
