Duke Nukem Forever...?

Recently 3D Realms released a new teaser trailer for "Duke Nukem Forever" the long awaited sequel to "Duke Nukem 3D". The trailer is shot using real time footage from the game.

I still am not holding my breath yet as it's been over 10 years since Duke Nukem 3D and it's been a long running joke that Duke Nukem is taking Forever and may never come out. You can read the history here. I also feel like it's been so long that it may never live up to the expectations that people have built up over the years like whatever it is that's out now can't match up to Duke Nukem Forever because it's taken so long that it must be the ultimate game.

In the meantime if you like me have Duke Nukem 3D as one of your favorite games ever and would like to play it again especially after reading this you should look into the Duke Nukem High Res Pack that freshens up the game with high res textures, detail textures, Polygon models, etc. all true to the originals but much higher detailed. It's out for Windows and Linux and i play it on Windows sometimes but I have been waiting for it to come to the Mac for years.

Other Stuff in December 2007.....

I saw the display for Blade Runner The Final Cut on DVD at wally world recently and I was so tempted to buy it. The display looked awesome like they made photorealistic high res renderings of the characters and scenes and made a huge box out of them to display the movies it was pretty slick and made me long for the movie.

There may be a lot of movies that I want to see but I haven't forgotten about TV and I do look forward to watching the new Doctor Who Christmas episode this Christmas. I'm patiently awaiting it.

This Ubuntu theme looks pretty good.... it's a step in a nice direction for them. It's still not 100% as clean as I like but it's looking good so far. I'm glad they removed the underlines under the letters in the menus as those are eye sores and I like this way better.... Apple has it the same way and it's something I like about it. It still needs more polish and fit and finish though and I'll be interested in seeing how it progresses. I think the first screenshot is the better of the two.

In the AVP-R trailer they are showing on TV they said, "It started on their worlds... it'll end on ours". That's one of the stupidest tag-lines I have ever heard. How can it end on our world if the other Alien movies take place in the future and the AVP movies take place in current times... and who said monster movies ever end anyway as long as they think they can make money making more movies I mean that's why they made AVP in the first place isn't it? The other movies didn't even take place on their worlds. Alien may have if LV-426 is the Alien's home world(moon) but Predator never did. I still wouldn't mind seeing the movie and it will probably be cool since it's rated R this time unlike AVP which was PG-13... but I just can't let things like that slip. =P

There's some rumblings on the internet about a recent job posting for "Touch interface QA personnel". This has lead people to speculate that Apple is going to release the "Mac Touch" soon. On the surface it may sound good but I also am not positive about other things like the graphics card situation.

The reason I say this is because Apple has so far been very conservative in the graphics cards they have chosen to put in the Mac upgrades. For example they put the slowest of the current generation ATI cards in the new iMac and the Powerbook while it has a better GPU has what should be considered a midrange card. The Macbook has a newer intel integrated graphics chip but it's still integrated graphics and the Mac Mini hasn't been upgraded for years except for the CPU of course. On the Mac Pro side they haven't upgraded or offered upgrades for those cards since they first came out. The PC world is leaving the Mac world behind when it comes to graphics cards which goes against what they are saying in their commercials.

So I feel like Apple is mostly focusing on CPUs ever since being in bed with intel and they are going with gimmicks like touch to distract us from that. I'm starting to get fed up with Apple and it makes me want to build my own computer and turn it into a Hackintosh instead of buying the computer itself from Apple. I'd go with a Lian Li case or a custom one that is apple'ish like the G5 Cube. And make my own midrange tower that doesn't feature Xeons but has a better graphics card than in the iMac\Macbook and Mac Pro. If Apple never provides graphics card upgrades to match what is going on on the PC side a Hackintosh will sound better and better all the time.
