With a new round of gaming consoles there is always people who predict doom and gloom for the PC. Like I have said before though this isn't necessarily true. I have been watching Bill Gates keynote from CES and it seems far from it the PC has 200 million game players worldwide (360 has 10.4 million). Microsoft is even working on getting Xbox Live to the PC with Vista and having it be unified with Live on the 360.
They quickly demoed Uno playing PC vs 360 and said it would work the same with hardcore games as well. They only thing they can't fix is immature donkeyholes who you encounter in online games. But when I get a Live enabled PC I wouldn't mind putting a friend or a few and family members who have either Xbox or Vista Live in my friends list. Like I said before though I would use the controller that best suits the game rather than use a gamepad for everything. Keyboard and Mouse is king when it comes to first or third person shooters, for games like Lego Star Wars the gamepad is. I'm sure Uno may work good with a gamepad but it should work well with a mouse as well.
The media center features and iptv they showed are also interesting and it makes me feel like having a good media center PC as my entertainment PC and maybe a 24 inch iMac as my productivity computer. The media center PC would replace my aging 27 inch wooden cabinet living room TV.
The only thing I don't particularly care for is all the things they are wanting to put into the car. The only entertainment I need in the car is music and MP3 player integration would work great for me there. I could perhaps use a good GPS with voice directions so I don't get lost. Then maybe a cell phone for emergencies. However I don't need videos or games in the car. I don't need instant messaging or other computer tasks. Leave those at home especially as the driver I want to be able to keep my mind on the road.
