I was listening to the latest PC Gamer podcast and things where fine as usual. I usually like listening to their podcast becuase I like hearing them talk about the latest news in PC gaming and they are strong advocates for PC gaming. However I just finished listening to something that has made me feel like quitting listening to PC Gamer Podcast.
They strongly dissed the Mac. They where having a special guest in their podcast who is now working someplace else in their company and he said they have him on a Mac and he hates it. So then.. they where saying that if you know how to use a computer you won't be able to adjust to using a Mac and only newbies who are uncomfortable\afraid of technology essentially should get a Mac. They say you can't customize a Mac. One of them said the OS was designed for granny's. They even dissed the keyboards and mice that come with it.
They said they strongly dislike like the Mac way which I know for a lot of it is my way as there isn't anything about the Mac that I don't like besides it not having as much games as Windows. I never have seen OS X as being a granny OS nor a dumbed down one even though I was an advanced Windows user for way longer than I have been a Mac user and I'll probably still use it in the future at least for the games (maybe through boot camp ;)). Although me getting acquainted with the UI by changing my windows UI to be more like it and just being comfortable with changes in general from all my alternative shell years may have helped. I'm not as set in my ways as some people are when it comes to computers although I am comfortable in OS X the way it is.
However, I know for a fact it's not true that you can't customize the Mac OS. If you want It's possible to kill the dock, hide the menubar, move it to a right click, change the theme, change the icons.. make bars\tabbed docks\etc. with dragthing. etc. in OS X. Hack the nib files completely changing window layouts. What more do you want? Most people I have seen on Macs or PCs don't even change their default theme much less anything like that. A lot of people choose not to do that stuff because they like me actually like how the Mac works and not because it's easier as if we needed hand holding. Hardware customization I'll give them. There isn't as good an upgrade path for video cards on the Mac. I blame Apple for not upgrading as much, the video card manufacterors for not releasing EFI compliant video cards as much and the PC industry for sticking to BIOS... but that still doesn't make the Mac less cool in my eyes.
It kind of breaks my heart listening to them dissing the Mac whole sale like that. Although that's nothing new when it comes to the Mice. I know there are quite a few mighty mouse haters out there even on the Mac side.
After hearing that I didn't want to listen to the rest of the podcast it had maybe 10-15 minutes left. This isn't the first time they have had choice words about the Mac. They have said before that the Mac is just for girls (as if that was a bad thing even if it was true). Am I too sensitive? Maybe.. I just don't like to listen to people dissing what I use. I know in the future if the topic of the Mac comes up again they will probably dis it again.
I feel the same if someone disses PC gaming as I feel when someone disses the Mac. Or anything else that I use that I just know is cool. I'm just like, hey, I like it.. so there!
I'm not going to give them any feedback however as I don't think it would be productive and it probably wont change their minds
