There seems to be quite the hullabaloo on rumors about the next revision of Mac OS X which is rumored to be called "Snow Leopard". At first it was rumored that it was going to be Intel only and all the core applications are going to be transitioned over to cocoa. Now they seem to be going back on the former. If they did still support PowerPC for the OS I wouldn't be surprised since there have been lots of Macs within the last few years that where still PowerPC that would be able to run it.

However, I don't think you can count on all the independent software developers continuing to support PowerPC in new revisions of their software. I wouldn't make that assumption myself. I'm seeing applications dropping PowerPC support already especially games. I'm sorry to say it but on the desktop PowerPC is nearing end of life and is a dead end. In fact.. it's already dead. It's just wheezing its last gasps. If I had the money I would move to an intel mac right now.

Some people seem to think that since they bought a certain chip manufacturer that they would be going back to PowerPC some time. I could be wrong about this but I wouldn't bet on it. The only two places I think PowerPC has any traction with the consumer is in embedded devices and consoles.

Another thing I kind of don't believe is that it will just mostly be polishing up 10.5 and that it wont have any new major features. They wouldn't be Apple if they didn't put in some new features to wow people in my opinion. They need something new and shiny to woo people over.
