I just read an article that says that in Oklahoma a student may get a passing grade in earth science even if they say nonsense like stuff about the flying spaghetti monster. Some people are so hung up on religion that they are actively encouraging students to rebuke science and reality in general. I'm sure some kids don't even care and there might be quite a few that go that route just to get an easy grade in the subject but that's just hurting them in the long run. What's the point of having that class now that the student can just reject what they "learned" and say whatever they want? They can easily just not pay attention ever and then tell them fantasy. I think this is going too far. If stuff continues to go this way and the people buy it we are heading down the slippery slope back to the dark ages.

I like this quote:

I don’t care what your religious belief is, there are some things that are simple facts. An object with mass has gravity. A lump of lithium dropped into water will create heat and hydrogen gas. An accelerating charged particle will emit radiation. These are facts. It doesn’t matter what you believe: reality is that which, when you go to sleep, doesn’t go away.

What if they make it so in other subjects you can give any answer you want like in Math?

"The flying spaghetti monster told me that 1+1=5!"

Speaking of students I had a show on TV that was talking about smoking and young people. Several kids came out and said, "We're going to die someday anyway why not have some fun?" talking about smoking (and probably other things). The point is not that it'll kill you someday but it'll make quality of life worse in the meantime. Of course kids think they wont die anytime soon and think that nothing can hurt them so they think that they don't care. They think this way about any kind of risky behavior.

It makes me think of this other show I watched where they say that forbidding certain snacks just makes the kids want them more. They took a group of kids and took two snacks that they liked equally and made one forbidden\rationed. The kids went crazy over the forbidden fruit. The same thing happens with other things that are forbidden although the answer for the latter isn't as easy as the former where you can just not keep the kind of food you don't want your kids to eat around.
