I didn't think I'd think of anything else to write about tonight but here I am again..

Recently the game "Manhunt 2" has received an AO rating from the ESRB. The console makers won't allow AO games to be published for their systems and the stores won't carry them either. Effectively getting an AO rating bans your game by default. If Rockstar wants to sell the game uncensored they would have to release that version on the PC and sell it online. That's the only place where AO games exist. But you would think that the developer would know this when it comes to the consoles and might have done this simply to get publicity. This isn't the first time they have courted controversy what with Grand Theft Auto and all.

Similar things happen with NC-17 movies though so it's not exactly just a games situation.

I like this quote from ars technica:

"From Nintendo (via gamespot):
quote:
"Games made for Nintendo systems enjoy a broad variety of styles, genres, and ratings," a representative told GameSpot. "These are some of the reasons our Wii and Nintendo DS systems appeal to such a broad range of people. But as with books, television, and movies, different content is meant for different audiences. That's why the ESRB provides ratings to help consumers understand the content of a game before they purchase it. As stated on Nintendo.com, Nintendo does not allow any AO-rated content on its systems."

so, people are different and enjoy different things. the game is rated so you should know what you're getting, but we're still not gonna let you make that decision."

I'm glad I'm not the only one who found that statement ironic.

Take a look here

The new features makes it look very competitive with Games For Windows Live... and a cool thing is it's what people think Games For Windows Live should be. You don't need to have a game open to be on steam and it works with any game on there... Games For Windows live only supports the two games that have it built in and only when those games are open. Also it doesn't look like you'd have to pay extra to use those features in Steam. Some person suggested that Games For Windows Live still has a chance for success because they have achievements which some people are addicted to. But what good are achievements if only two games on GFWL support them?

They should bring out steam for Mac (I'm guessing it would probably be with Cider) and maybe also Linux.

I just spotted a preview blog entry thingy for Gametap for Mac and the screenshots look pretty good and they are on Leopard no less.
[Take a Look]

The screenshot also kind of looks like they have the vista'ish transparent Gaussian blur effect on the new dock too.

I was just seeing this:

and this link...

I'm like... youtube looks better on there than real youtube does.. I wish the controls on real youtube looked like that.

The interesting part is Apple didn't put in Flash support into either the iPhone or AppleTV. They are getting youtube on there by having Youtube change the videos to their codec and then making a special player for them.

I have always found FTW (For The Win) to be an amusing internet three letter acronym and I like using it sometimes especially when I'm joking around about something. But I don't like FTL because it's too negative and people use it in a snarky way. I guess I'd like to be more of a glass half full kind of person.

FTW FTW!
