Today I caught a documentary on TV about the word. It's such a complicated word because of how it's used to ostracize anyone that a particular girl doesn't like as well as label any girl who is deemed too free with her sexuality. They talked about it's history.. showed some girls who where wrongly labeled and where hurt by it. So some people suggest that the word should be banned and\or the double standard that exists that if you are female and loose you are a slut and if you are a male who is loose then you are a stud should be removed. In a perfect world this would be great but unfortunately we don't live in a perfect world.

I feel for these girls who are wrongly labeled because growing up I have been mercilessly tormented and I know how it feels. I agree that the word could be considered a profane word because it is used to hurt but the problem here is people can't have it one way or the other. If you just make the word even more taboo people will just be interested in it more. If you remove the sexual double standard then people will just shift more to labeling people who aren't as "free with their sexuality" as losers or worse just as some already do with males who are that way. The program I watched was one sided in that respect where they say males who are loose are labeled studs are looked at positively and things therefore are just rosey for males. But on the flip-side there is always someone who is going to be ostracized so what are we going to do? Ban any word that might be used for hurt? Just like they said.. if you are going to ban 7 words why not 8.. or 80.. or 800?

I'm just trying to think critically here. The cold hard truth is people especially in high school are cruel and nothing is going to change it.
