Sometimes when playing a game I simply want a gamepad. My favorite PC gamepad manufacturer is Saitek who makes quite a few PC peripherals that are nice. Especially their most updated pad the P2600. It has six face buttons which is enough to emulate capcom fighter games (I hate having hard punch and hard kick on shoulder buttons).. N64, etc. and it has four shoulder buttons which is more than the previous pad which I had which only had 2 shoulder buttons. So that pad has enough buttons for just about any emulator or game that I would want to play. It's actually not much to look at but it has what counts to me.

Saitek has dissapointed me with their latest pad though.. take a look:

Read about it here.

They've decide to go with the status quo this time around with just four buttons on the face of it. It is pretty cool that you can switch the left analog stick and the d-pad around depending on which style you want to use at the moment (Playstation or Xbox). But the four button thing has pretty much turned me off it right off the bat. Also the directional pad on the other one was already perfect besides how the paint wears off of it after a while. I don't know how this new directional pad compares to it.

I just hope they continue to sell the older pad or make a pad similar to the new one but with the same six button layout as the old one. My disappointment with this pad is the same one that I had with the Nintendo Wii classic controller. The layout on that controller may be enough for NES and SNES and other systems with similar layouts but not for systems like N64 and Sega Genesis which feature 6 button layouts. Don't get me started on the gamecube controller.. it may work well with games specifically designed for it but not for all games at least in my opinion.

But I may be the voice in the wilderness when it comes to this particular issue and I don't mind.
