Here's something that is amusing to me. I was reading an article about "
foods that can get you high" and it made me think of this one guy who was actually trying to make a pro drug argument by saying that food IS drugs. His reasoning is that if you don't eat for a while you feel crappy and that's got to be food withdrawal. I myself know that there are certain things in certain foods that do have the same properties as drugs because they actually have the same or a substance that certain drugs are derived from. Some foods are destructive to your body\mind like drugs because they are unhealthy.
However I always come back to how I think there is a HUGE hole in the theory that food is the same exact thing as drugs that I could drive a semi truck through. Think about this if you will... a lot of people can go through drug withdrawal and survive the rest of their lives without that drug. Can you do the same with food? Can you stop eating, go through "withdrawal" and then live the rest of your live without food (and water)? Food, unlike recreational drugs is a basic necessity of life. You feel crappy from not eating or drinking water because your body genuinely needs it... not because you are chemically\psychologically dependent on it. A person may become psychologically addicted to food and overeat but even if they go to therapy for that they still need to keep eating to sustain themselves... again it's a basic biological requirement.
I could see someone going to food anonymous and quitting eating like one may quit alcohol. That would be suicide.
