I pestered the people at gimper.net to post a full-screenshot of the Aqua port of The GIMP and they obliged:

[Take a look]

I noticed it's actually GIMP 2.5. They told me the way the buttons such as the ones to raise\lower the layers, etc. being flat there is the way they are going to be in all versions. I was almost thinking it was a Mac specific change and I approve of it... but all versions will be like that.

The person at gimper.net in charge of the Mac section (Auria) was worried that screenshot may ruin my impression of the Aqua port because the image window is "rough around the edges". I said I didn't mind and seeing it I can understand how those windows turned out that way from the way they are constructed. I actually don't think they look too bad for a beta\alpha and the main thing I would change is making the rulers get the window texture as well as inside the window around the canvas.

She even said the scrollbar texture animation works in there just like with a standard application. That's good news to me. I'm guessing the push buttons in dialog windows such as the save window work just like native as well.

Either way I'm glad to see the kind of progress they have been making on getting The GIMP to be more native. Also just like on Windows manually changing the theme to match the current one I'm using will be a thing of the past.

Not to mention I also really like the menubar integration they have done. I'm guessing we may have to wait for The GIMP 2.5 or 2.6 for this to come out though. It's currently at 2.4.5.. which I am currently running through X11 with a custom theme to match the Shapeshifter theme I'm using.

I can't wait until that version is put into a .app bundle and distributed for Mere Mortals to use.

I came across this article which tests the new service pack for Vista versus XP in gaming benchmarks. Of course since Vista scored lower than XP the Vista hating people are all out in full force.

Here's the thing... )
